Yahoo Boss API has been up at making news ever since its launch last month and the latest post on the Yahoo Search Blog reports about a few out of many applications that have been built on it. The purpose with which BOSS was launched was to eliminate any and every barriers that limited any possibility to create new search engines.
The team has put up a few engines that have utilized the availability of access to Yahoo’s Search investments and these new services have done pretty good at utilizing BOSS.
What needs to be seen here is how effectively it has been put to use and more importantly BOSS hadn’t come out shouting to overthrow a giant in business by assisting the various search applications. It has come and simply assisted developers out there to put there creativity to use as one can witness it in Tianamo, created by Lachlan James (never mind its complexity for the time being).
The search engine displays the results for search in a 3D visualization. The service maps relations between search results from BOSS API and shows them in visually. That’s just one of the many ways the BOSS API can be utilized and all that limits is the creativity of the developer.
4HourSearch was released by Yahoo VP of platforms, Sam Pallura launched Yuil in response to the recently launched Cuil (that we reviewed), is powered by BOSS and gives better search results that its competitor, Cuil. Yuil was taken down as laws came into play but that didn’t stop Pallura and after a bit of rip-off, came out with 4HourSearch that was created in no time at all (a little under 5 hours).
