Word comes to us today that AOL’s Weblogs, Inc isn’t the only blogging outfit irking their editorial staff of late. Of course, a lot of the blogosphere has been following with some interest what’s going on over there at AOL, as a number of blogs’ writers are being affected by the fluctuations in budgets. It’s been most closely detailed (at least in my reading list) by Marshall Kirkpatrick over at ReadWriteWeb.
Similarly, though much less publicly, a writer uprising has been brewing over at Profy.com, the San Francisco based blog owned by Ilya Korsun and edited by Svetlana Gladkova. A number of rising stars in the blogosphere are on staff there, including Cyndy Aleo-Carriera, Leslie Poston and Triston McIntyre. Cyndy and our own Steven Hodson regularly appear on Profy’s Things You Can’t Say On The Internet with Inquisitr’s Duncan Riley, and I know that I converse with Cyndy and Leslie quite frequently on FriendFeed and Twitter.
As of this afternoon, though, they’ve all moved on from Profy. We don’t have the exact details at the moment on the nature of the disagreement, but gist of the schism seems to be a biz-side edict that a great deal more work is now required of their writers coupled with a “substantial” pay cut. Currently, the only staff left are the owner and editor Svetlana.
This comes on the heels of odd rumblings I’ve heard through the grapevine about the perpetually in private beta/alpha Profy blogging platform. Apparently there’s an incredibly interesting story about why this blogging platform keeps getting delayed and stalled, but no one is willing to spill the beans on the record.
The troubles on the development side combined with the en masse walkout today caused one source close to Profy (but not employed there) to quip: “..basically Profy is fscked.”
It’s unfortunate, because the organization was showing signs of being the little engine that could, working on a multi-pronged business model and producing quality content while being largely based outside of the echo chamber.
For fans of the editorial staff, they’ve all got other places you can find them now. Cyndy Aleo-Carriera will be moving to The Industry Standard, and both Leslie Poston and Triston McIntyre will be working at Tech Blorge as well as UptownUncorked
