It allows you to easily track what people are saying about you, your company, a new product, or any topic across the web’s social media landscape in real-time.

Search results are aggregated from numerous popular social media sources, including Google blog search, Twitter, Delicious, FriendFeed, Flickr, Digg, YouTube etc. and remixed as a single stream of information. The data is fresh, which means you can track conversations as they are happening in real-time.

In addition to web-based search results, Social Mention also features email alerts and personalized RSS feeds for automatic and instant updates.

Before I say anything else, I’d like to apologize for the lack of posts for the past couple of months on a regular basis.. Simply put you’d not want to be in a situation I am in right now.. Screwed up college life, and personal life to a smaller extent, has made things a lot difficult for me..

I have become a lot more busier at college, after becoming the Vice President of the department which has added a whole new range of activities I am supposed to be doing.. Added to that, I have also been selected by Microsoft to become a Microsoft Student Partner on campus, wherein am expected to conduct technical sessions and other seminars on a regular basis.

Combine these two responsibilities with the bigger and more important responsibility that is of a student, things are kind of messed up for me at the moment.. The past month has gone completely in preparations for a major event in college, and am tired and exhausted while I leave for Goa today to attend a training program of sorts to be organized by Microsoft.

Once I come back, its a hectic week after that.. I am not making excuses here.. I just want to keep you guys in the loop on what’s happening over at dailyApps. Also to an extent I have hit the writers block, and whenever I sit down to write something the words simply don’t come out..

I cannot say when exactly dailyApps will come alive again, because College has got a lot busier than it ever was.. For me and my family my education and studies remains the primary concern, so its only natural I feel that blogging will suffer.. But trust me, I don’t like all this either.. I miss blogging daily on dailyApps, I miss reading your friendly and useful comments and I can’t wait to get back on the ship.

Hopefully in the coming weeks everything should be sorted out, and things should be back to normal.. Till then if you have any suggestions for me on how to manage time effectively I am all ears..

After all I’m just 19 and I have never before carried so much of responsibilities.. I am determined to make things work, which means you will see new posts on a regular basis pretty soon, and dailyApps will be the same active blog it was before.

Please stay tuned, the best of dailyApps is yet to come.. Cheers!!

Thank you all of you, for sticking around…

OtherInbox claims to be “the cure for email overload.” I’ve been part of the beta test for a few weeks now and I simply love it. Instead of giving you a single email address, OtherInbox gives you the ability to create multiple addresses in your own subdomain (myusername.otherinbox.com). These addresses can be used to sign up anywhere. The service officially supports Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and (for those of you stuck at work) Internet Explorer.

Example time:

Let’s say that I want to sign up for PossiblyShadySite.com but don’t want to give out my real email address, potentially passing it to spammers. Instead, I register with the address

possiblyshadysite@myusername.otherinbox.com

For those who prefer to use their own domain, that option is also available. All messages to my custom address will fall into its own folder in your OtherInbox, where you can read, archive, search, and reply to them in a nice Outlook-style layout.

Note to self…see if “PossiblyShadySite.com” is taken. Now where was I?

You can do this with a seemingly-infinite number of sites.

- save your Amazon receipts in amazon@myusernname.otherinbox.com
- filter your eBay auto-searches into eBay@myusernname.otherinbox.com
- use separate email just for signups, say em>signups@myusernname.otherinbox.com
- etc.

Best part about this is that there are no filters to set up; you do not have to go to the OtherInbox site ahead of time to create the address. For instance, right after signing up (got username makeuseof) I sent myself 3 emails to following addresses:

- test1@makeuseof.otherinbox.com
- test2@makeuseof.otherinbox.com
- test3@makeuseof.otherinbox.com

When I logged in to OtherInbox I saw each of those emails in its own Inbox. Sweet.

In the event that you begin to receive unsolicited mail in a particular inbox, you have the option of hitting the big “Block All” button, which disables that address. You’ll never see mail from them again. The option to turn a disabled inbox back on is there if needed.

Checking multiple sites for your mail is a chore, and OtherInbox seems to understand that. Additional options allow you to auto-forward all incoming mail to another address, or (my favorite) read your messages via RSS.

The same options are available for individual inboxes, along with the vice-versa option, importing an RSS feed to an inbox.

OtherInbox can also import messages from any IMAP account, auto-saving and organizing receipts, coupons, etc. I’m told that there is currently no limit to the amount of messages that can be saved in your OtherInbox account.

Being a beta, it can be prone to the occasional hiccups, but I have no real complaints about the service. I believe that once you have been using OtherInbox for just a few days, you will wonder what you did without it.

I’m also happy to announce that the nice folks at OtherInbox have opened up their beta to the first 100 Make Use Of readers to sign up through this link. You may also follow their Twitter account for the chance to score an invite, or simply to send them feedback.

So why not set up an account and then come back here and let us know what you think? Do you see this as the new weapon against email spam?

Make Use Of has written a lot on email spam but here are a couple of posts you might want to check out

For the first time this year the conference is going to feature separate Business and Builder tracks for the afternoon session. The builder track looks especially interesting with panels on "Mobile Web vs. Applications vs. Widgets" and "Mobile Web User Experience" and tutorial sessions on "Building, dynamic, compelling, ad-funded, off-deck mobile web content", "iPhone WebApps", "Mobile Design", "Yahoo! Blueprint", "Nokia Web Runtime" and "Gears Mobile". View the complete agenda.

The Business track has some interesting sessions in the morning too. I'm especially looking forward to the panel on the mobile web and mobile browsers with representatives from Opera, Netfront, Skydeck and Mozilla.

During the development phase, LiveCycle developers sometimes require an e-mail server to test mail functionality. It might be too much paperwork to get corporate IT to provision additional e-mail accounts for test purposes on the corporate mail server. In such cases, Apache's JAMES mail server comes in very handy. It is a light-weight mail server built using Java that you can run locally on your laptop/desktop without any external dependencies. It requires about 30 MB of RAM. JAMES is an acronym for Java Apache Mail Enterprise Server.

To get it to work, the following steps are required:

- Download it from Apache's JAMES website
- Extract the .zip file to a suitable location. No install is required
- Make sure that the environment variable JAVA_HOME is poroperly set to the right JDK
- To start JAMES, navigate to the /bin folder and run run.bat from a command prompt

- By default, JAMES listens on port 4555 for its Remote Manager Service. This service lets you configure JAMES. It uses the IANA-assigned default ports for POP3 (110) and SMTP (25).

- To add users, telnet to JAMES from a command prompt using the following command:
telnet localhost 4555
The default administrator user is 'root' with password 'root'

- Use the folowing command to list all available commands:
help

- Add a user (livecycle) with password (password) using the following command:
adduser livecycle password

- Add an additional user (user1/password) for verification purposes

- Verify using the following command:
listusers

- Logout using the command quit.

- Download Mozilla's Thunderbird mail client and install it. You can also use Microsoft Outlook.
- Configure the accounts livecycle and user1. The respective e-mail addresses would be livecycle@localhost and user1@localhost
- Send mail from one to the other and vice versa and verify that both work.

Remember when we told you about Google’s new satellite, GeoEye-1, which should bring highest resolution commercial imagery available to Google Maps? Below, you can see the first image that the satellite captured. GeoEye-1 captures images at .41 meters in black and white and 1.65 meters in color; for real life reference, that means crisp enough to read license plates.

Google, however, will receive imagery in 50-centimeter resolution because of a government restriction and the fact that it’s not the only customer who benefits from GeoEye-1. They’re sharing it with National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency; which collects and analyses geospatial data in support of national security. Translated, that means they get the really good stuff. Real spies probably have their own, even more advanced satellites, though. Speaking to Wired, Mark Brender, GeoEye’s vice president of communications and marketing, said that GeoEye-1 is

“the opposite of a spy satellite. Spies don’t put info on the internet and sell imagery. We’re an Earth-imaging satellite, and we can sell our imagery to customers around the world who have a need to map and measure and monitor things on the ground.”

The important fact is that GeoEye-1 is up and running, collecting imagery for Google Maps which will soon start looking like the image below. Time for a new round of mapspotting!

For a limited users account, they only manage logon to Windows and use most of the capabilities of the computer, but only an administrator can make changes that affect other users of the computer. Administrator account is the master account in Windows. When users logon to Windows with administrator account, they may do whatever in Windows and even can use to create additional user’s account in Windows. Since administrator account having the full access right at Windows, therefore administrator’s password must remember else is hard for user logon back to Windows for some case. If limited users account cannot logon to Windows, users still can use administrator account logon to Windows and change the password for limited user account. If both accounts also cannot logon to Windows, worst case is re-installed Windows and is not recommended.

MapQuest will begin showing business reviews from start-up Yelp on Thursday, part of a plan to expand from just a mapping site into a go-to hub of local information.

Through the deal with Yelp, MapQuest will get better locally specific content, and Yelp will get more Web site traffic from beyond tech-savvy places such as Silicon Valley that currently are familiar with the site, said Christian Dwyer, MapQuest's senior vice president and general manager.

In addition, the AOL site will add sports information to its MapQuest local site, said Mark Law, MapQuest's vice president of product development. The expansion fleshes out MapQuest's vision to reproduce what people can find in their Sunday newspaper, but in a dynamic online format.

MapQuest also is seeking to plug into the booming mobile mapping business. It's released BlackBerry-specific applications so far, and a version of its site tuned for the Safari Web browser on Apple's iPhone is due to be launched "in the next few days," Dwyer said.

The efforts come as AOL seeks to improve its financial condition so Time Warner will get a better deal selling the asset--perhaps to Yahoo. Dwyer wouldn't comment on MapQuest's financial performance other than to say, "We're a healthy, growing, going concern."

The new local site, initially launched a month ago, is growing in significance for the AOL division, too. It's got about 3.3 million visitors a month, compared to 48 million for the entire site, Law said.

Another change coming is a shift in ad formats. The older MapQuest site uses a somewhat antiquated large banner ad across the top--"Secrets of the ultra wealthy revealed!" said one ad I saw Wednesday. The new site uses a more modern, squarish ad on the right, and MapQuest is moving away from the banners, Dwyer said.

Demandbase today announced a partnership with Jigsaw, a leading provider of business information and data services.

As a result of the partnership, Demandbase has qualified and integrated more than one million of Jigsaw’s business contact records into its technology platform, Demandbase Central™. Jigsaw’s information is now available through Demandbase’s lead generation solutions including Demandbase DirectTM, a pay-as-you-go service for buying business contacts; and Demandbase StreamTM, a free software widget that lets sales and marketing people see which businesses are visiting their web site, understand their interests, and then find who to contact for sales follow up. Jigsaw joins Demandbase’s growing network of data partners, including D&B, Hoovers, Inc., LexisNexis and ZoomInfo.

“We’ve been using Demandbase solutions since early this year, and the platform just keeps getting better,” said Robert Rose, vice president of marketing at Crownpeak, a leading provider of on demand Web site software. “The company’s approach to quality over quantity in lead generation allows us to target the highest potential customers and reduce the time and money spent marketing to the wrong companies. And, the super-elegant, easy-to-use interface keeps my sales and marketing departments coming back for more.”

Demandbase has integrated the business contact data from Jigsaw with other business information to deliver best-in-class records to drive higher lead quality. The technology platform also provides a lead scoring engine to make it even easier for sales professionals to pinpoint the right prospect, delivering a higher rate of return from multi-channel sales and marketing efforts.

“Jigsaw is the only data company that has had more than one million records meet our stringent requirements,” said Chris Golec, CEO of Demandbase. “When combined with our technology, the freshness of the data, rich titles, and direct dial phone numbers will make sales prospecting and multi-channel marketing much more effective for every single one of our customers.”

Glam Media, that digital-ad company that keeps expanding beyond its original base of celebrity gossip and fashion, has launched a new section: Glam Luxury, targeting high-end brand enthusiasts and the ad dollars that love them.

At launch, the headlining advertiser is (you guessed it), Swarovski, the jewel manufacturer that spawned a zillion awful iPhone cases.

So far, there are 35 participating sites geared toward affluent audiences that have agreed to be part of Glam Luxury and run its ads in exchange for some perks, like syndication in a Glam e-newsletter and access to a revenue-sharing video platform. Among the third-party sites are BlackBook.com, Travels in Taste, and Luxique, as well as existing Glam participants such as Apartment Therapy and Refinery 29.

It might seem a little bit silly, even tasteless, to be launching a luxury brand ad network in the face of a serious economic crisis, but Glam's stance is that Glam Luxury should actually help. Pinpointing audiences still willing to splurge on jewelry, handbags, and vacations, the company said, will be financially efficient and ultimately help profits.

"Glam Luxury is more relevant for luxury marketers than ever before," Joe Lagani, Glam's vice president of brand sales, said in a release. "The words, images, and thoughts that surround a luxury brand must reflect the current times, with a speed and adaptability the high-end marketer requires. Glam Media provides marketers with the right audience, environment, and reach, and enough flexibility to change with marketplace dynamics."

But perhaps in a sign of economic belt tightening, Glam hasn't hired a new "editor" for Glam Luxury, as it has with new content areas launched in the recent past. Instead, Glam Living's editorial director, Erika Lenkert, will oversee Glam Luxury as well.
